Kids and Sports

My daughter wanted to try everything! She played softball, soccer, skating, swimming, diving, tae-kwon-do, skiing, and even football. She was a natural athlete and was very competitive. She definitely didn’t get that gene from me. As she got older, I spent many weekends attending competitions with her. I think her favourite was skating. She was very good and knew how to take instructions. In 1999, she pretty much got every trophy award there was given out at the Figure Skating Club. To this day, I don’t know how she did what she did! I think the pressure of the competition was harder on me than on her. I would be a nervous wreck, but I would try not to show it. I just tried to be positive no matter what the outcome was.

My 1st son was not all that interested in joining different activities. He didn’t like being told what to do and was happy having his small group of friends. He was always like that, even when he was a toddler. He joined the Football team when he was around 8 years old and seemed to enjoy it.

He had a great coach, who took the time to explain, and you could tell he truly cared about the kids. He was also very good at it. The Peewee team won the Quebec title in 1997, the year he played with them. Then he played for other teams who both won provincial titles.  He excelled and continued playing until he graduated from High school.

My youngest son was a mixture of the two others. He easily made friends and gave 110% in whatever he did. He was not interested in playing football. He was built like a football player, and the coaches asked him to join, but he had no interest in doing so. He decided he wanted to play soccer and loved to ride his bike.

He also was a great little skier. We had him skiing when he was only 3, and he loved speed. As he grew older, he became involved with Rugby, Wrestling, skiing, and mountain biking. Of course, his love for speed and adventure turned into motocross and now motorcycle racing.
