On December 31st, 2016, my daughter married. I would have never imagined that she would have a winter wedding. I always thought it would be a beach-type destination wedding since she loved to travel.
The day started with her and her bridesmaids meeting at the hair salon. Then they came home to a big brunch that David and I prepared. After brunch, the photographer came over to take some pictures, and before you knew it, it was time to go to the wedding. She and her bridesmaids went together in the limo and took more pictures on the way.
It was a snowy day, and the wedding and reception were in the country, which made for great pictures but could have been better travelling. The wedding and reception were held at Auberge des Gallant. It had such a beautiful ambience, and the wedding ceremony was lovely. The minister was the husband of Carol’s friend. The ceremony was not too long and very personal. I made a slide show with music for the father and daughter dance. The pictures were of her growing up with her dad. The song was “I loved her first” by Heartland. Everyone had a great time at the reception. Some lyrics to the song are; I loved her first, I held her first and a place in my heart will always be hers. I could write every detail but that is her story to tell.
Before I knew it, it was time for my sons wedding in September 2017. It was a hot fall day, and love was in the air. They had been dating for over 9 years. They decided to have the wedding and ceremony at an old house which was converted into a restaurant and reception hall. It was beautifully decorated, and the outdoor grounds were perfect for pictures. It was a hot fall day; no sweaters or jackets were needed.
The minister was the father of his friend. The ceremony was short and sweet. The reception was held indoors, and the dinner and dancing were great. He asked me to choose the mother and son dance song. He was really surprised that I chose “Nothing else matters” by Metallica. It was a song I always enjoyed hearing him play on his guitar. Some of the lyrics are; Forever trusting who we are, and nothing else matters.
I have always encouraged my children to trust who they are and go with their gut feelings!
Grandchildren
In October 2017, our 1st granddaughter was born. My daughter welcomed a beautiful little girl into the world. I was honoured to have been able to be present for her birth. I think I enjoyed it more than my deliveries, partly because I wasn’t the one in pain, and being able to support her through it all was extra special.
Our 2nd granddaughter was born in November 2019. Once again, I was able to attend the delivery. We were now living in the Laurentiens, and my daughter decided to have the birth in Hawkesbury, Ontario, which made for a shorter drive for me. After my experience with her 1st birth, I didn’t think it would be possible to get that excited again, but I was wrong. It was a totally different experience and so exciting. Everyone was so kind and caring, which made for a beautiful birth. Of course, the bonus was seeing that beautiful and healthy baby!
Our 40th Wedding Anniversary – June 21st, 2020
What a surprise! My daughter had organized a family get together for our 40th Wedding Anniversary. She had also invited a Shaman who blessed our marriage and wished us with many more happy years.
It was absolutely perfect!
