We all have had our ups and downs in life, but I truly feel that what you make of those experiences makes you who you are. Growing up was not always easy, but I believe the people and situations we live through have a purpose. Certain people may bring you hardships, and others may bring you great joy, but they are in our lives to teach us something. What that may be is the big question. I used to resent some people who brought me great pain, but now I thank them because they have taught me so much about life and made me who I am today.
We also may struggle with health issues or have to deal with a loved one who may also be struggling. Does this make us a stronger person? For some, it may bring them down to the point of depression, which they may never get through, but it helped me educate myself and never give up. I have always said that my middle name is Determination. Again, I think this was my life’s path, and there is a reason and purpose for all these events.
I started writing my autobiography because I wanted to leave something personal for my grandchildren to read. I remember being young and not interested in the stories my grandparents, parents, or relatives told me. Maybe when they are older, they will start asking questions about their Nana’s life. I also thought that if I succeeded in making it interesting, others could enjoy and benefit from my life’s lessons.
So it all begins with my young self, who grew up with very little but had love from many family members. Some of them did not know how to show their love or even express it verbally. I learned much later in life that some people cannot speak that language.
Strength doesn’t come from what you can do. It comes from overcoming the things you once thought you couldn’t.
