I was brought up Catholic. I took a brief course in school when I was 7 so that I could do my 1st communion. I went to church because, as a good catholic, that is what you do. I only remember a little of the teachings!
I was married in the United Church. When my children were born, we had them baptized in the Presbyterian & United Churches. When they got older, they would go to Sunday school. My daughter enjoyed it, but my son didn't want to be there. Eventually, we stopped going to church because it was too stressful. Going to church should be enjoyable. I figured waiting for the kids to be older before we returned was best.
As the years passed, I would attend church on special occasions, but I never found anywhere I felt comfortable. I didn't attend church, but I was still very spiritual. I didn't need to be in church to speak to our Creator. I started reading more books about spirituality and got comfort knowing it was okay to be the way I was. There is no set rule that God our Creator only hears you if you are a churchgoer. That is only the Catholic way!
By following my heart and being authentic, I present the real me. Making decisions based on other people's expectations differs from the true path to happiness. I am responsible for creating my own reality. With this knowledge, I continue honoring our Creator by including him in my life every day I may be on this earth. He has given us so much beauty and love.
The saying, "People are in your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime", is so true. I've had many people come into my life for a reason or a season. They taught me something about life, and then they moved on. The people here for a lifetime are probably from my soul group. We made an agreement before we came to this lifetime on earth. I am grateful for all the experiences, good and bad, that I have had with these people.
Certain situations and people have been placed in our path to teach us that everyone has a unique, authentic life story, and we must put ourselves in that person's shoes to understand their motivation. There have been people along my path who have shaped me into who I am today, but I am solely responsible for my own happiness.
Living a mindful life is about respecting and honoring those around me and recognizing every person and circumstance on my path as a teacher. I don't view change as good or bad because all change nourishes your soul. Life happens, and it's supposed to happen. You can direct how it plays out and always have the power to accept a change that redirects your path.
I try to remind myself that my soul has returned to this planet to learn. The satisfaction of a task completed is more emotionally rewarding than a task delayed.
In 2021, I signed up for a one-year online course on connecting to my inner self and spirit. My mentor was Indigenous Medium Shawn Leonard. I also read his book "The Language of Spirit", which gave me hope that life does not just end. We may no longer be here in physical form, but we continue living in the spirit world. We then help guide others to succeed with their life's plan. This course taught me so much about myself and others.
I am learning to accept the things that I cannot change. To have abundance in all areas of my life, I must create the space of receiving and know that I am deserving of anything my heart desires. I find the strength to face fear confidently by listening to my inner voice and following its advice. I am acknowledging my intuition. I use my intuition in all aspects of life. Spirit only wants the best for me, and by listening to my inner voice, I will always be guided to the proper outcome.
I can't remember where I read or heard this quote, but it is so true.
"You were not born to listen to fear; you were taught to listen to it."
Train your mind to only have positive thoughts, and you will attract positivity into your life. If you SEE it, you can BE it!
The signs will always be obvious when you silence your mind and listen to your intuition. I look at my past choices and am mindful of how, through my positive actions, compassion, and understanding, I have made a better life for myself and others.
This is an excerpt from Shawn’s latest book, Spirit Talker: Indigenous Stories and Teachings from a Mi’kmaq Psychic Medium, which can be purchased on Amazon.ca
“None of us are getting out of this world physically alive.” We all have a time to be here, to learn, to grow, and to evolve as a spirit. We are all simple spirits having a sometimes short human experience – not the other way around.
I was fortunate to meet Shawn in person. The first time, he came to Montreal to film one of his show episodes for Spirit Talker. The second time was very recently when he came to Montreal for a group reading with spirits. I purchased tickets for myself and my sister. It was a birthday gift for her. I was hoping that one of our relatives would come through. We did not have any spirit connect with us, but watching how he gave these messages from Spirits to people who truly needed to hear from their loved ones was heartwarming.
Notice the Orb over my head (picture on left)
What is an Orb? An orb is a transparent ball of light energy that is connected to spirits. Orbs can be spotted in photos or even videos. Your loved ones are still with you from up above, watching and caring from a place of love, they are very much always with you. Look for the signs.
I’ve learnt so much through Shawn’s Spirit Talker Tribe course. I am the same as everybody but with different challenges. I am trying to learn to accept that the obstacles in my life have been chosen by myself. I have chosen this life and these circumstances for a reason. I understand that a mistake is only an opportunity to
learn. The soul simply views them as chances to grow. Holding on to negative energy will strengthen karmic cycles, and forgiveness can break that pattern.
The most important person you must learn to forgive is always yourself.
Blaming yourself for “failures” blocks the natural flow of love, which attracts all good things into your life.
